Karen Minikin

Karen holds a MSc in Psychotherapy and is an accredited practitioner of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is a UKCP registered psychotherapist. She also works as a management consultant in organisations.

Karen spent five years teaching English and Geography, before working as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist for Adults and Adolescents. Since 2000, she has written for the 'CPJ' - now called 'Therapy Today' - and contributes to the 'Challenge' column, race and culture features, and its book review section. She takes an integrative approach in her work, drawing from a range of psychological theories to support her clients in making positive changes in their life.

With adults she has worked with anxiety and depression, post-traumatic stress, difficulties arising from childhood abuse, relationship difficulties, work-related stress, and issues of identity, including racial and cultural identity.

Her work with young people has covered a wide range of issues, such as difficulties with self esteem, concerns over body image, bullying/victims of bullying, difficulties making friends, distress with being away from home, stress and anxiety about school work and performance, as well as disruptive behaviour. Karen's background in teaching adds depth to her understanding of the challenges facing young people and her capacity to develop an empathic rapport.

Karen works both short and long term with clients and also offers supervision for counselling and psychotherapy.
